Homework #2- Favorite of the Bunch

This piece is my favorite because of its use of scenery. It gives me an uncomfortable feeling, but that doesn't minimize the fact the use of negative and positive space was used well. Others focused more on their objects, whereas this piece used the background to relate to the foreground. They used the visual hierarchy in a way no one else did, showing a sidewalk and light post going back into space. Whether intentional or not, this makes a road emerge. The shapes are easily identifiable, and even though it's a simple piece, it totally represents what was asked to be made.

This was the last drawing I drew for this project. I drew a bit lighter within this drawing, which I personally believe brought out the solid blacks. I also used smudging more then I have in any other picture, blurring the inside of the pipe.

I believe the angle of the pipe is correct, but the drawing is inaccurate because of how it's proportioned. The top bending part of the tube should be pushed farther out, but because of my unbending will to not draw outside the cube, it became squished. I think this drawing is different from others contrast wise. It shows less of a value scale and more of a jump between values.

This is the forth drawing I drew. I decided to use water this time to describe the way the pipe rounded. I however still kept textures within the tube. I believe I could've shaped this drawing better, as the top seems smaller then the bottom. I feel like it's different from the other drawings I did because of the new media I experimented with.

This drawing was the third of the ones I drew. I liked this one more because of how well I drew out the boxes after I had been struggling with it for the 2 drawings before. I smudged a lot more on the surface of this drawing and left the insides more textured to try and show the object in a different way. I know this drawing is different from a polished piece because of how messy it is and how it displays form.

I feel like this drawing was the most creative out of the lot. It was very fun to create and even though I screwed up the boxes within the drawing, I overall enjoy how it looks.

I used the charcoal stick heavily in this photo, hence the "dark" darks. I turned the stick on its side to create texture within the middle. I used paper towel to create smudging and overall liked the effect of that too.

Lastly I think this drawing isn't described as a regular drawing, again because of how messy it is. It isn't nearly as crisp as the last one and shows a lot of marks that were not intentional. It shows what I saw but in a very different way.

In this PVC pipe drawing, I was just starting to draw the first of these 5. I didn't do well exhibiting the boxes used to create the figure and ellipses. I started by sketching out the picture and slowly grew darker within the shadows. I used the eraser to lift the charcoal and created defining lines as well. I believe the best area of the drawing is the texture within the bend, shown below. It's a lot messier then a "regular" drawing would be in my opinion. This seems more sketch like. 

Single Line Portrait- Homework 1

                                 

1. I used the paper to create a squished effect, choosing two different perspectives instead of a whole figure. The shape of the paper however, I did not experiment with and if I redid this project I'd change that. 

2. Yes. I exhibited the continuous line technique. I didn't pick my pencil up and I recorded what I saw.

3. I would experiment more with the paper's positioning as it would've made the drawing more interesting composition wise.

Folded Paper Drawing- Mini Project 1

                                    

1. To start, I drew as I usually do, my wrist on the paper with hard outlines of the object. I moved into holding the pencil and using my entire arm to shade the picture. 

2. I did plan this out. I started with outlines and erased whatever I saw as unfit. I believe the drawing showed a mediocre placement for what we were doing. If I had done this as a bigger project I wouldn't have put it center to the page. 

3. I tried to show a creative side in what I drew by making the object more complicated. Majority of the class drew airplanes, but I however struggled to create a tiny paper hat. The outcome is not what I wanted or expected but I took the challenge anyway. I tried to use different marks to shade as well, but I could've done better in my own opinion. Overall I feel like this tiny project went well.
